Planning minister Nick Boles has launched a test website of streamlined planning guidance for public comment.

The new website sets out new guidance, which until now ran into thousands of pages.

The minister says the new online national planning guidance will give much needed simplicity and clarity to the planning system and bring about better community involvement.

Members of the public have six weeks to give their views on the style and content of the website before it goes live.

During this time all current planning practice guidance will remain in place.

The website outlines advice on a number of issues, including encouraging local authorities to build more bungalows for senior citizens and new neighbourhood planning guidance to enable communities to devise their own plans.

Nick Boles said: “Having stripped away outdated advice, our new user friendly website brings together a simplified set of clear, concise guidance and publishes it altogether in one place.

“This will make the planning system much easier to navigate for everyone involved.”

The portal comes after the Taylor review, which brought together a group of experts led by Lord Taylor of Goss Moor to make recommendations on the practice guidance that should exist to “support effective planning”.
